Fully Integrated Fleet EV Charging Solution
North Tyneside Council is progressing its ambitious sustainability strategy by electrifying its 300 vehicle fleet to help reduce local emissions and support the transition to cleaner transport across the region. To support this vision, the Council sought a future ready EV charging solution capable of integrating with solar carport and battery storage system, creating a centralised Electric Vehicle Hub for its fleet operations.
To deliver this project, North Tyneside Council partnered with EV charging and solar installation specialist ChargedEV to design and implement a scalable, intelligent charging infrastructure that could support both current and future fleet demands.
As of February 2024, the solution has successfully delivered more than 3,600 charging sessions for over 110 unique drivers. The infrastructure has supplied over 70,500kWh of energy, enabling more than 206,500 electric miles to be driven across the Council’s growing EV fleet.
The Challenge:
As North Tyneside Council accelerated the electrification of its fleet, it required a robust and reliable charging network capable of supporting a high volume of daily operational vehicles.
The Council needed a solution that would:
- Support a large scale transition to electric fleet vehicles
- Integrate seamlessly with renewable energy infrastructure, including solar carports and battery storage
- Deliver a simple and accessible charging experience for multiple drivers and departments
- Provide complete visibility and control over energy usage, charging data and pricing management
- Ensure high reliability and minimal downtime for essential fleet operations
The project also required a trusted installation and support partner capable of delivering both technical expertise and ongoing customer support throughout the rollout.
The Solution:
ChargedEV delivered a comprehensive EV charging solution featuring a total of 66 MaxiCharger units, installed across a combination of wall mounted and floor mounted applications to suit the operational requirements of the site.
The charging infrastructure was designed to provide a seamless user experience for fleet drivers, allowing access via RFID cards, bespoke QR codes or smartphone functionality. This flexible approach ensured simple and efficient charging across the Council’s fleet operations.
The entire solution was integrated with the Chargeasey back-office management platform, giving North Tyneside Council full visibility and control over charging activity, energy consumption, user management, and pricing models.
The integrated EV hub also aligned with the Council’s wider sustainability objectives by supporting renewable energy integration through the site’s solar carport and battery storage system.
The Result:
The completed installation has provided North Tyneside Council with a scalable and highly reliable fleet charging network that continues to support the ongoing electrification of its operations.
