Sevadis urges fleets to secure £1 million in EV charging support before it’s too late
With just three weeks to go until the November 28th deadline to take advantage of the Government’s Depot Charging Scheme, Sevadis – one of the UK’s leading suppliers of electric vehicle charger points – is urging all its commercial vehicle fleet operator customers to sign up before it’s too late or funding is exhausted.
The Depot Charging Scheme is one of the UK Government’s most generous incentives for zero-emission transport, covering 75% of eligible depot charging cost – including charge points, civil works, battery energy storage systems, and solar integration. There’s no limit to the number of depot sites that can be included per application and the scheme offers up to £1m per applicant organisation. Beyond the November 28th deadline, all works must be completed by 31 March 31st 2026.
The initiative addresses one of the most persistent barriers to EV adoption: depot charging capacity. For years, operators have been able to access the Plug-In Van and Truck Grant to support vehicle purchases, but lacked equivalent support for infrastructure. The Depot Charging Scheme finally bridges that gap – allowing fleets to fund both the vehicles and the charging systems needed to run them.
Mike Hawes, Chief Executive of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), has long called for this kind of reform: “Without urgent reform, the UK risks missing critical decarbonisation targets. Operators face crippling delays—up to 15 years—for grid connections at depots, threatening the transition away from fossil fuels even before legislative deadlines come into effect”.
